Barbara Jo’s sophomore album Big Blue Sky In The Morning is released June 1, 2020!
There are artists who can breathe new life into songs by other writers—giving them a fresh and unique interpretation while still communicating the spirit of the original recording and its writer. Anyone that has loved the music of Eva Cassidy knows that. Barbara Jo Kammer is an artist of that feather. One would think these songs were hers. All of the tracks were carefully chosen by Kammer and her producer KC Groves (Uncle Earl), reflecting songs, writers, and styles that have made a home in her heart. The record includes songs written by Tim O’Brien, Willie Nelson, Susanna Clark/Richard Leigh, Tex Owens, and Buddy Holly, among others.
The title track of the record, Big Blue Sky In The Morning, is Barbara Jo’s own song, and does indeed express her big, beautiful heart. Barbara Jo’s music is no stranger to Folk/Americana radio hosts. In 2017, her debut album, One Song at a Time, debuted at #2 on the September chart, and Barbara Jo made it on the list of Top Artists of 2017. Big Blue Sky In The Morning is a follow up that does not disappoint.
Once again, Barbara Jo relied on the talents of KC Groves (Uncle Earl) as producer. Groves put together a team that includes Mollie O’Brien, Darrell Scott, Sally Van Meter, Groves herself, and some of the region’s most talented musicians. Barbara Jo’s musical mentor, Darrell Scott, describes her new release: “Barbara Jo has made a strong second album—more sure footed, great song selection, great sound and production—and Barbara Jo is sitting perfectly at home in the center of it all.” (Scott also lends his voice to backup harmonies on track #5, “Revival.”)
Barbara Jo is not a touring artist—but chooses to use her musical gifts as a music therapist to the elderly in assisted living homes and in hospice throughout Colorado’s Front Range and Wyoming. She can’t visit them now as she usually does—but she plays in their courtyards and outside their windows.
